Nikki met Avery’s best friend, Nick (also their officiant!), back in 2019 going to Friday night volleyball at Pinheads in Fishers. She didn’t go quite as much in 2021 as she did years prior, but one night in September she did - and so did he. At the end of the night, Nikki walked up and introduced herself to Avery, then turned around and went about her night. He followed her on Instagram (she didn’t follow back - ope!) and she didn’t hear from him for a while.

Nikki has gone to LA Fitness in Noblesville on and off since 2018, Avery has gone back and forth between the Noblesville and Westfield LA for even longer. They hadn’t crossed paths before, until they did. Avery came up to Nikki and reintroduced himself, asking if Nikki went to Friday nights at Pinheads. After a little bit of chit chat, they realized they had met once the year before. They swapped numbers and after a few weeks of texting, started hanging out as friends.

After a while of getting to know each other, they admit they both liked each other as more than friends and start hanging out more and more often. They did a lot of kayaking, gymming, and golfing! After a long day of kayaking (Avery forgot his paddle?!) and getting swarmed by mosquitoes on the way out (Nikki was welted for weeks), Avery decided that was the best time to make things official and exclusive, Nikki of course, said yes!
It didn’t take long for Avery and Nikki to turn from liking each other, to really, really liking each other, to eventually getting the courage to say “I love you.”

Nikki and Avery constantly spent the night at each other’s houses to try and spend more time together. After a while, they decided it was time to move in together and come home to the same place every night. Friends of Avery’s had recently moved out of a cute, little A-frame in Noblesville and needed someone to take over their lease. The timing was perfect! They spent a few days cleaning the place and sleeping on an air mattress and quickly turned it into a home.

Avery’s family is from Minnesota, and Nikki and Avery make trips up there 3-4 times a year when they can. One of their favorite places, Granite Falls, is where Avery’s dad grew up and his grandma still lives. They like to go on drives, seeing the landscape and nature. On their trip earlier that year, they found a spot that used to be an old quarry with big, granite rocks everywhere. Avery knew that this was where he wanted to propose when the time came. Flash forward 6 months later and he did just that. Nikki knew it was coming, but still sweet all the same.
